The SP-4 cartridge is a very specialized round, developed during early 1980s for the needs of the KGB and Spetsnaz elements of the Soviet armed forces. The key niche of this ammunition is noiseless and flash-less firing during various special operations.

The PSS-2 silenced pistol was developed in Russia, based on the original PSS but with some features of the SR-1M pistol and some improvements. It fires SP-16 noiseless 7.62×43 mm ammunition, more powerful than, but incompatible with, the original 7.62×41 mm cartridge. The PSS-2 was adopted by the Russian FSB security agency in 2011. [2]

Captive piston ammunition is a unique, special-purpose cartridge that is designed to be intrinsically quiet as compared to conventional ammunition. Essentially, the SP-4 silent cartridge consists of a reinforced steel cartridge case containing a small powder charge enclosed in a cup-like piston in the rear of the case.

2017年5月1日 · Back in the late 70’s Russia came up with a cool concept. A silent cartridge. You can see the cut away above and below. The long cylinder is the projectile and the red piece under it is the piston. When the primer is struck it ignites the powder like a conventional cartridge. The combustion pushes the piston and that pushes to projectile out.
