The EMD SW8 is a diesel switcher locomotive manufactured by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and General Motors Diesel between September 1950 and February 1954. Power is supplied by an EMD 567 B 8- cylinder engine, for a total of 800 hp (600 kW ).

LV 250 is a standard SW8, with the characteristic sloped hood in front of the cab. It was in the first batch delivered to LV, and has MU on the cab end only. It is one of only three LV locomotives to wear a combination of Tuscan Red and gothic lettering.

SW8. New York Central was the only PC predecessor to purchase the SW8, an 800 horsepower switcher. They were numbered 8600-8627, with the exception of the Despatch Shops switcher.
