The Saab 37 Viggen (The Tufted Duck, ambiguous with The Thunderbolt) [3] is a single-seat, single-engine multirole combat aircraft designed and produced by the Swedish aircraft manufacturer Saab. [1]

Saab Ja-37 Viggen of the Swedish Air Force painted in a jungle configuration construction began in 1964 with the very first prototype taking flight in 1967. The goal was to produce an aircraft with excellent STOL performance that would enable it to operate from improvised facilities, such as roads and highways.

2014年5月25日 · JA37 Viggen is the only aircraft in the Viggen family equipped with a head-down-display from Smiths Industries. It makes it possible for the pilot to fly in any kind of weather. Totally 329 Viggen were built, 149 of then are JA37´s. Many of the functions in Viggen are automated, to help the pilot and so he can work comfortably.

Maximum speed at high altitude: Mach 2.1 (1,400 knots, 1,611 mph, 2,593 km/h). Maximum speed at low altitude: Mach 1.14 (760 knots, 875 mph, 1,410 km/h). The aircraft has thrust reversing capability, very unusual in a military jet (Tornado has it too).

2025年3月18日 · The ejection seat was the Raketstol 37 and was the last Saab designed seat in service. A derivative of the Saab 105 trainer seat, the seat was optimized for low altitude, high speed ejections. Low speed capability was limited to speeds above 75 km/h on the runway. The seat was angled back by 19 degrees to help counter g-forces in flight.
