hard drive - SAS-3 vs SAS-2 HDDs - Server Fault
2015年5月26日 · SAS-3 supports 12 Gbps while SAS-2 supports 6 Gbps. Many people say that using 12 Gbps disk drives is of no use in present architectures unless there is a flash cache layer in between. 12 Gbps interface can be used with an …

How much PCI-E bandwidth can my SAS HDD array make use of?
2020年7月7日 · Quoting from Max SAS throughput of a disk stack? So one SAS 10K HDD has ≈140 IOPS. With 8KB block it will be just 8 * 140 = 1120 KB/s of throughput. Turning that x18 and you end up with a whopping 20160kb/second. Rounded 20MB. That is 0.1% of your bandwidth. There is a reason SAS is good enough for handling hundreds of discs.
3 Gbps or 6 Gbps SAS harddrives? Does it make a difference?
2010年12月9日 · Is there a real-world difference between 3 Gbps and 6 Gbps SAS drives in a server? I keep reading that harddrives don't even fully saturate 3 Gbps yet, so 6 Gbps is nothing gained. I'm using multiple discs across RAID 10 if that matters. Thanks!
How can I connect a SAS drive to USB? - Server Fault
2015年5月28日 · I need a way of reading the healthy-but-inaccessible SAS disc that does not depend on the only SAS-capable machine I have to hand. So I bought: SAS to SATA Adapter and: USB 2.0 to SATA Adapter with Power...so that I could read the SAS drive via USB. I can plug it all together just fine. The chain looks like: USB -> SATA -> SAS.
How to ensure SAS-3 wide port configuration is enabled?
2021年9月14日 · A bunch of SAS 3.0 hard disks in the enclosure. The enclosure and disks work just fine with a single cable attached, but they can optionally be connected with two. Using two cables is recommended by the manual of the enclosure: (The other two mini-SAS-HD connectors listed in the specs of the enclosure are for daisy-chaining more enclosures, but ...

Possible to use SAS-2 and SAS-3 HBA in the same system?
2019年6月10日 · I'm wondering if it is possible to use a SAS-2 HBA in a "SAS-3" system. I have a Supermicro X11DPH-T and have attempted to install an LSI 9201-16e. From what I understood (which may be wrong), a PCIe 2.0 card may be installed in a PCIe 3.0 slot, but the slot will negotiate down to 5GT/s.
Performance differences between 2.5" vs. 3.5" SAS - Server Fault
2009年12月4日 · Currently the largest SAS 2.5" drives are 146 GB for 15k, and 300 GB for 10k. One reason why the SAS 3.5" disks have relatively poor density, is that the platters themselves are far from filling the case, closer to 2.5" size actually. This is AFAIK due to problems with larger platters wobbling slightly at high rpm.
SAS or SATA for 3 TB drives? - Server Fault
We are looking to purchase new 3 TB enterprise-grade drives and can buy either SAS or SATA models. AFAIK, SAS generally gives better performance than SATA, but searching for benchmarks I found the article Seagate Constellation.2 and Constellation ES.2 Hard Drive Review . The summary is that SATA was actually faster than SAS on most of tests.
