The Long Range Patrol Vehicle (LRPV) is a 6x6 patrol vehicle that was used by the Australian Special Air Service Regiment (SASR) in Afghanistan and Iraq. The SASR's first long ranged patrol vehicles were modified Series II Land Rovers. They were developed in the early 1970s and used in exercises in northern Western Australia from 1973. [1] [2]

The Special Air Service Regiment, officially abbreviated SASR though commonly known as the SAS, is a special forces unit of the Australian Army. Formed in 1957 as a company, it was modelled on the British SAS with which it shares the motto, "Who Dares Wins".

SASR Long Range Patrol Vehicles must function well in the harshest environment whilst carrying heavy loads and they must do its job well. It is a vital aspect of strategic reconnaissance and long range patrol duties. The LRPV units are a variant custom fitted and modified by the SASR. How many were there in total?
