2022年12月8日 · An overview over the magnificent Cygnus molecular complex with a four panels mosaic of the SADR star region and Sh2-108 Gamma Cygni Nebula. The NGC6910 open cluster is also visible in the lower right quadrant. The nebula was photographed between June and July 2022 with over 64 hours of total integration time in Ha/Oiii/Sii narrowband filters.

Sh 2-108 is sometimes called the Gamma Cygni nebula because of the foreground appearance of the F8Iab supergiant (also called Sadr). In fact this nebula lies far beyond Gamma Cygni in the depths of the Cygnus X complex of star formation regions. This nebula is also called DWB 63 and is the location of the radio source W66.

Estimated at 5,000 light years distant, the Gamma Cygni region features newly-formed stars, vast streaks of light-blocking dust, and glowing nebula along the plane of our Milky Way. Gamma Cygni, the massive F8 supergiant star located off-center in the frame, actually lies much closer to Earth at only 750 light years.

2024年6月9日 · It's Sh2-108 aka the Butterfly Nebula. Located in Cygnus, there are many other LBN and LDN objects in this spectacular field with the bright star Sadr shining prominently. The cluster NGC 6910 can also be seen near the top of the frame.
