Our governance framework is designed to effectively deliver our strategy, which is to deliver more value with less emissions, with a focus on safety, people, and sustainability. Our sustainability commitment is supported by comprehensive governance structures, policies and standards.

This Shell Sustainability Report covers our social, safety and environmental performance in 2019 and significant events for us during the year. All the goals are relevant to Shell. We can make the greatest contribution to three: Shell must continue to make a real contribution to people’s lives.

In 2016, the United Nations adopted 17 sustainable development goals. These goals build on the preceding Millennium Development Goals and seek to tackle the world’s economic, social and environmental issues by 2030.

Our target to become a net-zero emissions energy business by 2050 is transforming our operations and energy products. We believe this target supports the more ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement, to limit the rise in the global average temperature this century to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
