Southern Pacific No. 4457 was a class GS-4 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive built by the Lima Locomotive Works in April of 1942. Just like the other three siblings that it was built in April 1942. It was used for passenger service on the Southern Pacific Railroad.

The first group of 20, numbers 4430 to 4449, were delivered in April and May of 1941, while the second group of 8 GS-4's, numbers 4450 to 4457, arrived during March, April, and May of 1942. Number 4430 was set up on April 11, 1941 and 4449 was set up on May 30, 1941.

2018年10月19日 · The Southern Pacific ordered 28 more Class GS-4 "Golden States" from Lima and took delivery of twenty (road numbers 4430 through 4449) in April and May of 1941 and the other eight (road numbers 4450 through 4457) in March and May of 1942.

2019年5月26日 · The engine was painted in Daylight as postwar #4457. A beautiful engine, and much superior to the Bachmann GS-4 that it seems all SP modelers of the 1970s and 1980s must have had to start with. The WSM 4457 model engine ran for over 10 years on my childhood home layouts without problems.

2018年1月27日 · SP 4-8-4 4457 and the morning northbound Daylight put on a fine show as they race up the Coast Line in the morning. I think this shot may have been taken in the LA metro area, maybe Glendale, but I don't know the area well enough to recognize the area.
