The C30-7 is a 6-axle diesel-electric locomotive built by GE Transportation Systems between September 1976 and May 1986 as an updated U30C with a 16-cylinder 3,000 horsepower (2,200 kW) FDL-series diesel engine.

The C30-7 model was manufactured between 1976 and 1986 and was fitted with a 16-cylinder 7FDL engine. It replaced the U30C model. A total of 1,137 C30-7s were built, all of them for North American railroads.

Tracing exactly where they all went, let alone what colors they wore when they went, is tough. Units 8010-8098 were turned back to GE in 1989. These traded units were then placed into GE's lease fleet, and sent to work on various railroads, which included CSX, SP, BN, and C&NW. Sometimes the units were temporary units, until new locomotives were delivered by GE.

GE’s U30C was a popular locomotive for coal-hauling railroads, and those sales continued with the new C30-7 as Burlington Northern and Union Pacific each acquired large fleets (242 C30-7s to the BN, and 140 for UP).
