Section 1 gives an overview of the design and principles of spectrographs, and briefly discusses the equipment required to produce a fully calibrated set of spectroscopic data; Section 2 describes the calibration data needed and how it is applied; Section 3 gives a thorough overview of processing spectroscopic data; and Section 4 briefly discuss...
Spectrograph set up
The plane and tilt of the fibre slit can in principle be different from those of the long slit, the difference in the plane of the slits causes a difference of the distances from the fibre and long slits to two collimators. Because spatial resolution is important, the spectrograph should be set up to provide a collimated beam onto the grating.
Setup and Alignment Procedure for the GECKO Spectrograph
Here is a step-by-step procedure for preparing the Coudé f/4 spectrograph for operation. This assumes that desired filters are in, the proper spectrograph optics are in place, the CCD has been aligned by eye using the cross-hairs on the corrector lenses, and that the gratings are in good enough alignment that they may be aligned remotely.
make your own spectroscope and see all the colors that make up the light from different sources. Spectroscopes contain a diffraction grating that works like a prism to separate and spread out light waves according to wavelength.
Volume Phase Holographic Gratings: VPH - use modulations of the index of refraction rather than surface structures to produce dispersion. High efficiency! In the camera focal plane there is the dispersion direction perpendicular to the slit and the spatial direction along the slit. For slit spectral, depends on slit width and grating choice.

CD and DVD Solar Spectrograph - home.moravian.edu
The images below show the CD/DVD solar spectrograph set up on my front driveway with my Canon T4i digital camera mounted on it, using a Canon EF 35-80 mm zoom lens that has a minimum focus of about only 15 inches.
Spectrograph Setup - Telescope
To do the setup, I primarily followed the directions given in the users' guide for the LHIRES III spectrograph on the Shelyak web page. Mary Ann had already adjusted the slit width some time ago, so I started with the part about setting up to view the solar spectrum.
In this lab, we will set up a simple slitless spectrograph in two di erent con gurations, and in each con guration, we will measure and analyze the spectra from gas spectrum tubes. Optical spectroscopy is enabled by a grating, prism, or its combination (grism). These dispersion elements make rainbows that we call spectra.
Kast Double Spectrograph User's Manual: Setup Procedures
There are four things to look at, and one to set up for yourself. The look at items are. Make sure the CCD temperatures for both chips are reasonable. Check that the x-y stage settings are properly set on the blue side (probably to the nominal 10.0). Check the dichroics to be sure the ones you want are installed.
