In 1848, Spring Township was officially formed, but its history had begun long before in the mid-1700s when settlers followed paths through woodlands and along the creeks and streams in the vicinity. The township was well endowed with natural resources—plentiful creeks and streams, a multitude of woodlands, and caches of iron ore.

Spring Twp Planning Commission (meets 4th Thursday every month, unless noted) The Planning Commission serves as a "recommending body", and is responsible for the review of proposed subdivisions and land developments within the Township and recommends approval or rejection of these plans to the Board of Supervisors.
