ATSF FP45u/SDFP45 5991 built in Dec. 1967 as 101, renumbered as 5941 then 5991, rebuilt to FP45u/SDFP45 Oct. 1982, became SPSF 5991, retired Jan. 1995 to WC 6652, and seen in Dahinda, IL Oct. 11, 1987.

2007年5月25日 · When not hauling special trains, the FP45's toiled as regular freight locomotives. The unit behind FP45 5991 in the above photo is a 5250-class "SDF40-2," Santa Fe's designation for the 18 SDP40F's it acquired in a famous 1984 locomotive swap with Amtrak. Note the larger steam generator section on the SDP40F compared to the FP45.

2016年9月19日 · The red #boards on 5991 give it kind of a demonic look. Never seen anything but black. The red numberboards were standard on Kodachromes and it was sort of out of the ordinary.

ATSF FP45 91 - Railfan
The 5991 was one of seven FP45's repainted in the SPSF red and yellow warbonnet scheme in anticipation of a merger with Southern Pacific in 1986. In the upper photo, Jim Matuska photographed the 5991 leading the hotshot 199 train westbound, pausing briefly for a crew change at Ft. Madison, IA.
EMD released a new 645 engine in 1966. The most powerful locomotive using this series of engine was the SD45, powered by a 20-cylinder turbocharged 645E engine producing 3600 horsepower. EMD then offered the V20 645E engine in the SDP45 in a standard hood configuration and longer frame to occomodate the steam generator needed for passenger service.
