Stollberg is a town in Saxony, Germany, in the district Erzgebirgskreis. It is situated 20 km east of Zwickau and 17 km southwest of Chemnitz. It was the site of the Hoheneck women's prison until 2001.

In East Germany, near Chemnitz and close to the border of the Czech Republic, is Stollberg (Erzgebirge). It’s an fantastic place in the Ore Mountains where the trees seem to be greener and the sky couldn’t be anymore blue. Stollberg is also a historical town; which means at least a castle and few churches to visit. :-) But, don’t start there.

The large district town of Stollberg/Erzgeb. has around 11,000 inhabitants and is located on the northern edge of the Ore Mountains around 20 kilometers southwest of Chemnitz. Stollberg was first mentioned as a town with market rights when the region was first settled in 1343.
