Voice onset time - Wikipedia
In phonetics, voice onset time (VOT) is a feature of the production of stop consonants. It is defined as the length of time that passes between the release of a stop consonant and the onset of voicing, the vibration of the vocal folds, or, according to other authors, periodicity.
A Cross-Language Study of Stop Aspiration: English and Mandarin …
Abstract: Voice onset time (VOT) has been considered as one of the crucial methods for examining the timing of voicing in stop consonants in many languages. This study was designed to examine VOT production for phonetically voiceless stops of Mandarin and English by native Chinese speakers.
Covariation of stop voice onset time across languages: Evidence …
2019年1月31日 · Stop consonant voice onset time (VOT) was examined in a typological survey of over 100 languages. Within broadly defined laryngeal categories (long-lag, short-lag, and lead voicing), VOT means were found to vary extensively.
语音学里的频谱图怎么看辅音除阻的时间? - 知乎
VOT(voice onset time)是指辅音从除阻的一刻到声带开始震动,中间所经过的时间。 如果是用Praat,在比较好的录音环境下,语图上可以很清晰地看到除阻到声带震动之间的过程。
This study examines voice onset time (VOT) for phonetically voiceless word-initial stops in Mandarin Chinese and in English, as spoken by 11 Mandarin speakers and 4 British English speakers. The purpose of this paper is to compare Mandarin and English VOT patterns and to categorize their stop realizations along the VOT continuum.
Voice onset time of voiceless bilabial and velar stops in 3-year …
The VOT continuum varies cross-linguistically; however, Lisker and Abramson (1964) found that languages prefer three general timing relations between the stop release and the onset of voicing: (1) voiced (VOT of approximately −90 ms); (2) voiceless unaspirated (VOT of approximately +10 ms); and (3) voiceless aspirated (VOT of approximately ...
phonetics - Why does stop VOT duration vary depending on …
From what I understood of the model proposed by Hanson & Stevens 2000, variation in stop VOT by place of articulation is a consequence of the cross-sectional area formed by articulators. There is a plateau in area before vowel onset during which frication occurs.
Abstract: Stop consonant voice onset time (VOT) was examined in a typological survey of over 100 languages. Within broadly defined laryn-geal categories (long-lag, short-lag, and lead voicing), VOT means were found to vary extensively. Importantly, the means for members of the same laryngeal series did not vary independently but instead were ...
Voice Onset Time (VOT) at 50: Theoretical and practical issues …
2017年7月1日 · We review the 50 year history of the concept of Voice Onset Time (VOT). This widely-used acoustic measure of consonantal voicing distinctions retains its usefulness. Complications are discussed, and a standard set of labels proposed.
Structure in talker-specific phonetic realization: Covariation of stop ...
2017年3月1日 · The correlation and random effect analyses both provide evidence for the existence of strong positive linear relationships in talker VOT. In addition, there were consistent ordinal rankings of stop VOT, with talkers predominantly exhibiting a lower mean VOT for labials than for dorsals within each voicing category.
