In this study we show that Syk inhibition can prevent LPS-induced neuronal loss, which is dependent on microglia. Syk inhibitors selectively induce cell death of microglia in the absence of LPS, but Syk inhibition has relatively little effect on microglial survival or morphological activation, or in the presence of LPS.
