Based on the Library of Ohara's analysis of 1054 it seems that TCB scans is more accurate, but I don't follow that website much so I'm not sure how accurate it is. TLDR: Context matters. direct translations don't often mean better. It seems like the translator of Viz, although official, is coming into it as an English speaker who speaks japanese translating for an english audience. The TCB scanners to me are better translators because they are more accurate to the culture and sounds more natural.
