Government of Tamil Nadu is totally committed in building healthy people, not only by making available quality medicare facilities at the door step of every citizen in the remotest corner of the State, but also by providing medical facilities of the highest order, keeping pace with rapid technological developments in the field of medicine.

The Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine is responsible for the implementation of various National and State Health Programmes. This Department also plans and implements measures to prevent the occurrence of communicable diseases thereby reducing the burden of morbidity mortality and disability in the state.

Immunization Programme aims to reduce mortality and morbidity due to Vaccine Preventable Diseases (VPDs), particularly for children. Under the Immunization Programme, vaccines used to protect children and pregnant mothers includes TB, Diptheria, Pertussis, Hepatitis-B, Haemophilus influenza B, Tetanus, Polio, Measles and Rubella.

The Tennessee Department of Health (TDH) is the primary agency of state government in Tennessee responsible for public health. Its workforce provides a variety of direct and indirect services to residents and visitors in all 95 counties of the state.

The TDH Commissioner appoints the directors for these 89 local health departments, grouped into seven State regions and served by a TDH Regional Office. The public health services provided at the 89, rural health departments vary, reflecting population health needs and the capacity of funding available year-to-year.
