How Can You Become a TSA Canine Handler? In order to become a TSA Canine Handler a candidate must complete the TSA National Explosives Detection Canine Program. Those accepted to the TSA program are candidates who are either transportation security inspectors or local/state law enforcement officers.

We have adopted two canines from the TSA, Sasha in 2014 and Daisy in 2023. We selected the TSA Canine Adoption program for two primary reasons.

The CTC is located on the Joint Base San Antonio (JBSA) – Lackland, San Antonio, TX and provides basic and advanced canine, canine handler, and canine training instructor training at the JBSA-Lackland location. Additionally, staff at the CTC provide advanced training of canine teams at airports throughout the country.

The Canine Website System (CWS) is a web-based system administered by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) National Explosives Detection Canine Team Program (NEDCTP) to coordinate operations.
