The Taebaek in Taebaek-si originates from Taebaeksan Mountain, and refers to something that is very bright. Taebaeksan Mountain is a ‘very bright mountain’, and is called ‘Hanbakdal’ or ‘Hanbaedal’, and is connected to the myth of Dangun.

4 天之前 · When Mt. Taebaek was designated as a national park, Mt. Hambaek was also included, making it the highest peak in Mt. Taebaek National Park. In fact, Mount Taebaek is the 7th highest mountain in South Korea. The center of Taebaek is also over 700m above sea level. It's relatively easy anyway.
