The MTVL was designed by BAE Systems, Ground Systems Division to provide continued growth capability for the M113 series of vehicles beyond the capabilities of the world-renowned M113A3. By early 1998, a total of six MTVL vehicles had been built, all of which were conversions of existing vehicles.
