A hen gives birth to an egg she names Toto, whom she hopes grows up to be a "great chicken." However, Toto is separated from his mother along with a dozen of other eggs that are delivered to a supermarket, from which Toto and eleven other eggs are purchased.

It tells the story of a young chicken egg named Toto who, after being laid by his loving mother hen, is promptly taken away from her for human consumption. Separated from his mother, he meets more fellow eggs and befriends a soldier egg named Willy and a non-talking strip of bacon just named Tocino.

Willy is a chicken egg who was part of the egg military and Toto's best friend. When he was four-days old, he met and accompanied Toto and Tocino in a journey to escape the kitchen. He wears a green army helmet and a belt, and has a rounded afro-style hair.

Toto, a young chick born the run of the litter, rises to the occasion when a rancher threatens his home and his family.
