Such burial mounds can be found on many of the promontories and headlands along Lake Nisser. On the other side of the main road the path leads to a grove with almost 1,000-year-old oak trees and 15 burial mounds from the Iron Age. This burial site sits next to one of the oldest farms in Treungen: Årak.

It is one of the churches for the Nissedal parish which is part of the Øvre Telemark prosti in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark.

Treungen (Tveitsund) er et tettsted og administrasjonssenteret i Nissedal kommune i Telemark. Tettstedet har 542 [1] innbyggere per 1. januar 2023. Stedet er det eneste med over 200 innbyggere i kommunen. Det gammelnorske navnet på Treungen var «Þriðjungrinn», «tredjedelen», og henspiller sannsynligvis på en gammel bygdeinndeling.
