German submarine U-533 was a Type IXC/40 U-boat of Nazi Germany's Kriegsmarine during World War II. The submarine was laid down on 17 February 1942 at the Deutsche Werft yard at Hamburg as yard number 351, launched on 11 September 1942 and commissioned on 25 November 1942 under the command of Kapitänleutnant Helmut Hennig.

Sunk on 16 October 1943 in the Gulf of Oman, in position 25.28N, 56.50E, by depth charges from a British Bisley (Blenheim) aircraft (244 Sqn RAF/O). 52 dead and 1 survivor. The boat was attacked by an American PBY-5A Catalina of VP-84/P-5. Three of U-533´s gun crew were injured by .30 cal. gunfire.

U 533, unter Oberleutnant zur See Helmut Hennig, lief am 15.04.1943 von Kiel aus. Nach dem Marsch über die Ostsee, sowie Brennstoffergänzung in Kristiansand, operierte das Boot im Nordatlantik und südlich von Island.

U 533 war mit Kurs auf den Golf von Oman unterwegs, um dort Tanker zu versenken. Das Boot wurde durch den Angriff der Bisley O des 244. britischen Squadron überrascht. Obwohl Helmut Hennig sofort tauchte erreichten die vier angeworfenen 250 Pfund Wasserbomben ihr Ziel.
