Our Master of Public Health focuses on illness prevention and health promotion. Students of the MPH program have gone on to have careers as community health specialists, policy advisors, field epidemiologists, and project managers.

Applicants must meet the minimum academic requirements and professional experience requirements set out by the Master of Public Health Program and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

The MPH degree program will produce public health professionals with integrated knowledge and skills in epidemiology, biostatistics, social, biological and environmental determinants of heath, population health, disease prevention, and health systems management.

Pathways to Success in the UBC MPH The MPH program is a 20 month, full-time non-thesis degree which includes a capstone project and a practicum. Considering the curriculum below, the program is not intended for students who are working full-time.

The School of Population and Public Health does not have a limit to out-of-province or international students. We rank all completed applications and applicants are admitted based on merit.

The Master of Public Health Practicum is a supervised experience performed in a professional setting relevant to the practice of population or public health within Canada, or around the world. The Practicum gives students the opportunity to apply their coursework in the field, and develop relationships that often pave the way to future employment.

The MPH at UBC paves the way to diverse career paths. Some careers may be hands-on with individuals, patients and organizations, while others may focus on government regulations or budgets to promote health in all policies. Some may work locally, while others globally.
