UNLIREC is the only UN regional entity specialized in disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation in the Latin American and Caribbean region. Its main function is to assist States to implement international instruments and commitments in these fields.

UNLIREC es la única entidad regional de las Naciones Unidas especializada en el desarme y la no proliferación en la región de América Latina y el Caribe. Su función principal es poner en práctica los instrumentos y compromisos de los Estados Miembros en el área de desarme y no proliferación a nivel nacional, subregional y regional.

UNLIREC has established itself as a dynamic centre specialized in disarmament, conventional arms and in the non-proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. There are two main programmatic areas: (1) conventional arms control programme; and (2) non-proliferation instruments programme through which all assistance is carried out.

The development of the Roadmap and its implementation is supported by the OAS and the United Nations Regional Centre for Peace, Disarmament and Development in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNLIREC), with technical support from the Central American Integration System (SICA) and was funded by the European Union.
