Union Pacific 844 is a class "FEF-3" 4-8-4 "Northern" type steam locomotive owned and operated by the Union Pacific Railroad for its heritage fleet. Built in December 1944 by the American Locomotive Company (ALCO) of Schenectady, New York, No. 844 is one of four surviving FEF series locomotives and the only one in operation.

Good memories guys! Actually there were two incidences where the 844 rescued a stalled freight. HOTWATER described the first one. Bob Krieger said the engine was at peak performance as she pushed hard on that long drag. The sound was amazing and Bob even captured the wheels slipping right as she approached his camera! UP 844 is a FEF-3" 4-8-4 "Northern" Type locomotive, which entered service in December 1944. It was the very last steam locomotive for UP. Few locomotives are as legendary as the UP 844.

Today, FEF-3 #844 (at some times during history also known as #8444 to avoid numbering conflictions with a diesel loco) survives to pull excursion trains as a publicity locomotive for the Union Pacific, and is one the UP’s oldest operating locmotives.
