Check out this 10.9-mile out-and-back trail near Silverthorne, Colorado. Generally considered a challenging route, it takes an average of 6 h 45 min to complete. This trail is great for hiking and snowshoeing, and it's unlikely you'll encounter many other people while exploring. The best times to visit this trail are July through September.

The Ute Trail offers hikers expansive views and alpine tundra scenery without having to do a lot of climbing. Trekking entirely above treeline will also allow you to enjoy panoramic views along the entire route.

The Ute Peak Trail offers some of the best views of the Gore Range. Initially the trail climbs up to Ute Peak and then stays on the ridge of the Williams Fork Range all the way to Ptarmigan Peak. There are sections where the trail becomes faint but the ridge line is easy to follow.

Ute Peak offers some of the best views of the Gore Range to the west as well as the Blue River Valley. Depending on your route to the peak you may enter the Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness Area (dogs on leash).

Elevation: 78,890 feet 4 miles south of the junction of CR 3 & 30; 11,777 feet at Ptarmigan Pass. Trail Description: Begin at the Ute Peak Trailhead. Towards the beginning of the trail, pass through a tunnel that goes under the train tracks. As the trail gains elevation, it meets up with the Ute Pass Trail (#31) and continues up towards Ute Peak.

Despite being much lower than Colorado's highest peaks, Ute Mountain is the eighth most topographically prominent peak in the state, due to this isolation. It is also notable for its large local relief in all directions, especially its rise of roughly 4,250 ft (1,295 m) over the Montezuma Valley to the southeast.
