2024年9月27日 · VA is pleased to announce that on September 27, VA provided more than $4 million in cooperative agreements to 10 states and two territories to further the development of Suicide Mortality Review (SMR) programming, to improve the understanding of suicide deaths and facilitate tailored interventions.

Effective, 1 October 2024, the Post Commander will grant access to SMR for the purpose of lodging rental to all authorized official and unofficial guests. Due to ongoing construction, access to SMR will be granted with restrictions.

State Military Reservation is a Virginia Army National Guard facility located just south of the main resort area of Virginia Beach. The facility was originally laid out on approximately 400 acres in 1911 with construction beginning in 1912. Today, SMR occupies approximately 300 acres with an additional 27 acres leased from the federal government.

Under Focus Area 1, recipients will prioritize planning and establishing Suicide Mortality Review Committees (SMRC). Focus Area 1 recipients must conduct community outreach to educate key community organizations about the importance of SMRCs to secure participation in the work and must also provide SMRC training for its members.
