VCM and PVC Plant Process and Technologies | Phoenix …
VCM is sent through a catalyst-containing reactor where polymerization occurs. Chemicals cause the VCM molecules to react until they link together into Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). The linking of VCM molecules creates PVC resin – which is where all vinyl compounds begin.
Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) production - ECVM
Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) is the key material from which PVC is made. There are two methods to produce VCM: direct chlorination and oxychlorination. Direct chlorination sees ethylene and chlorine react within a catalyst-containing reactor to form EDC. EDC is then thermally cracked to yield VCM at a few hundred degrees Celsius.
Modelling of an industrial plant for vinyl chloride production
Artificial intelligence based modelling and multi-objective optimization of vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) plant to strike a balance between profit, energy utilization and environmental degradation
The five main processes used in the production of VCM are shown in Figure 1. The five processes include: direct chlorination of ethylene to form EDC, oxychlorination of ethylene to form EDC from recycled HCl and oxygen, purification of EDC, thermal cracking of EDC to form VCM and HCl, and purification of VCM.
Vinnolit is one of Europe’s leading EDC, VCM and PVC producers with a capacity of 780,000 t/year of PVC, 665,000 t/year of VCM and upstream chlorine plants. They enhance and optimise their process technology on a permanent basis. Vinnolit was founded in 1993 as a 50/50 joint venture between Hoechst AG and Wacker Chemie GmbH.
Vinyl chloride monomer production | Johnson Matthey
Vinyl chloride monomer production (VCM) is the building block of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This makes it one of the most important intermediates in the petrochemical industry today. Currently, about a third of global vinyl chloride monomer production uses the hydrochlorination of acetylene over a mercury-based catalyst.
The VCM Production Process Overview - aai.solutions
Producing sales quality PVC from raw materials involves several steps. Initially, ethylene dichloride (EDC) must be produced from the feed stocks of ethylene and chlorine. The EDC is then thermally cracked to produce vinyl chloride (VCM), …
Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) Manufacturing Plant - IMARC Group
IMARC Group’s report, titled “Vinyl Chloride Monomer (VCM) Manufacturing Plant Project Report 2025: Industry Trends, Plant Setup, Machinery, Raw Materials, Investment Opportunities, Cost and Revenue” provides a complete roadmap for setting up a vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) manufacturing plant.
Vinyl chloride (VCM), made from ethylene and chlorine by pyrolysis, is the feedstock for the production of the very common plastic material PVC. Modern VCM plants use integrated processes combining endothermic and exothermic reactions in an …
Model-based Advanced Control Solution Saves Energy on VCM Plant
Using Honeywell advanced solutions, profit controller (robust multivariable predictive control technology (RMPCT)) in conjunction with Technip's EDC CRACK rigorous yield model, the LG Chem VCM II plant in Yeosu, Korea has experienced (1) VCM production increase when demand allows, (2) overall EDC cracking depth (conversion) increase without ...
