VPB-52 was a Patrol Bombing Squadron of the U.S. Navy.

VP-52 arrived at Perth, Australia, and commenced reconnaissance patrols and operations from advanced bases in the southwest Pacific. Detachments were located at Exmouth Gulf, Geraldton and Perth.

A BIT OF HISTORY: "...My dad, William "Bill" Irwin, was a Black Cat pilot with VP-52 flying a plane called the Alley Cat One Time in and around NAF Biak Atoll, Schouten Islands, Dutch New Guinea and the Admiralty Isles between July of 1943 and October of 1944.

The lineage VP-3 / VP-32 /VP-52 carried forward the "Standing Elephant" insignia, and continued into WWII as VP-52. Much is said about the two VP-52s, usually in the one breath, so to speak, as if they were the one and only entity.
