The VT200 series is a family of computer terminals introduced by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC) in November 1983. [1][2] The VT220 was the basic version, a text-only version with multi-lingual capabilities. The VT240 added monochrome ReGIS vector graphics support to the base model, while the VT241 did the same in color.

The DEC MCS is an 8-bit character set that contains most characters used in the major European languages. The ASCII character set is included in the DEC MCS. National mode supports the national replacement character sets (NRC sets).

VT200 Series Introduced in 1983. There is no VT200 as such; the VT220 is a text terminal, while the VT240 and VT241 are graphics terminals, supporting Digital’s ReGIS graphics and Tektronix vector graphics.

The VT100 is a video terminal, introduced in August 1978 by Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). It was one of the first terminals to support ANSI escape codes for cursor control and other tasks, and added a number of extended codes for special features like controlling the status lights on the keyboard.

The VT220 emulation extended the possibilities of earlier terminal definitions like DEC VT100 or VT100 to allow the server to control special characteristics that go beyond the requirements of initial vt100 terminals, e.g. to support additional keys (like F5 - F12 function keys) that were not available on the VT100/VT102 series terminals.
