Welcome to Vaka Valo Association. We would like to welcome you to the new Vaka Valo Association website. We are very excited to be able to provide you with up-to-date information about our Programs and what we do on Taumako, Duff Islands, Temotu Province of SE Solomon Islands, Western Pacific.

Vaka Valo Association was established in 2014, at Taumako, Duff Islands. So far we have enrolled 199 participants in Taumako including men, women, and children who are voluntarily willing to learn since 2012.

In collaboration with Taumako Indigenous Knowledge Institution AKA TIKI, our goals are to build authentic voyaging canoes call Tepuke, Tealolili, Vaka Lua, Alo Uwa Uwa and voyage them using ancient navigational techniques, restore and sail the old trading routes, train the youths in traditional voyaging techniques, document the process of ...

2017年6月22日 · Holau Vanuatu will begin as soon as the right wind comes in November. During July – October maintenance will be done on both TePuke—Vaka Valo (the one at Ndeni) and Vaka Causey (the one at Taumako). When Vaka Valo is relashed it will be used in sea-training around Duff Islands.

Executive Director of Vaka Valo Association and Holau Vaka Taumako Association. Captain. Luke Vaikawi was born and raised on Taumako. He attended boarding schools and prepared for a career on the ocean.

Valo Group is a coalition of closely related Taumako people led by Te Aliki Jonas Holani. Holani also heads the Vaka Valo Association (VVA) which has members from a wide variety of family and tribal groups.ʻ Chief Jonas is a superbly skilled canoe builder, and has the most experience making voyages of any able-bodied person on Taumako.

This is an ongoing project that began in 2006 after a chance encounter with the ouija board in a garage. Summer was hot that year and I remember sister yelling for me to keep away from her room. We used to make ouija boards ourselves and we used to share a dream diary.
