The Hague has been led by mayor Jan van Zanen since 2020. He was previously the mayor of two other Dutch cities, Utrecht and Amstelveen.

From 2003 to 2008 he was the chairman of the national People’s Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD). Van Zanen then served as mayor of Amstelveen from July 2005 to December 2013. On 1 January 2014 he was appointed as the mayor of Utrecht.
