The Monitor was a highly modified version of the LCM-6 developed by the United States Navy for use as a mobile riverine assault boat in the Vietnam War. Another version served as a command and control boat (CCB or Charlie boat).

2017年7月27日 · Despite the loss of South Vietnam to the North, the Brown Water Navy served a critical role during actions in the Vietnam War. Her operations also included use of the valuable Patrol Boat, Riverine (PBR) crafts as featured in the Hollywood motion picture "Apocalypse Now" and the fabled "Swift Boats".

The Command and Communications Boat (CCB or Charlie Boat) served as flagships for river squadron and river division commanders as well as command posts for Army battalion commanders. They were similar to Monitors except they contained a communications suite amidships rather than an 81mm mortar.

By 1969 the US Army had identified 40 rifle/carbine types, 22 machine gun types, 17 types of mortar, 20 recoilless rifle or rocket launcher types, nine types of antitank weapons, and 14 anti-aircraft artillery weapons used by ground troops on all sides.

CCB 18 is a Command-and-Control Boat, Tour (and History) that supported the mission of Task Force 117, the Mobile Riverine Force. As originally envisioned, the Mobile Riverine Force would support an infantry brigade and an artillery battalion using a variety of modified landing craft, support ships and specially designed assault boats.

2021年3月22日 · The converted LCM designs added 0.25 inch armor plating in many areas to protect the superstructure from critical damage caused by rockets. The upgraded armored ATC made up about half of the river craft deployed by the United States during the Vietnam War, in effect making the ATC the "workhorse" of the river war.
