The twin-engine Voisin Type 5 first flew in early 1916 but appears not to have been developed further. The first Voisin Type V came into operational use in 1915 and not long after replaced the Voisin Type III on the production lines.

Out of the Voisin III, the Voisin 5 was developed with a stronger 150 Salmson P9 engine. The airframe was strengthened and the central nacelle streamlined. The new engine was placed on a raised platform to provide clearance for the propeller and was angled to provide downward thrust.

2016年12月1日 · The French Voisin Type 5 bomber was developed from the proven Voisin III series and saw action in the First World War. Though the III series accomplished what was expected from it, it soon became apparent that aircraft with larger bomb loads were more appropriate for the changing face of the fronts.

This Voisin LA-5, acquired through an exchange, arrived at the Museum in a sorry state and unfortunately incomplete being devoid of its wings and tail. Its history is not well known. It appears to have served as training material at the military aviation school of Ambérieu.

Generally speaking, the Voisin 5 (or simply "Voisin 5" or "5") is a single-engine aircraft powered by a "thrust" propeller assembly mounted to the rear of the central nacelle. The wing is a biplane variant - the upper assembly is moved forward - and originates at the rear of the nacelle above and below the engine location.

While the Voisin 3 had proved a successful design, it could not easily mount the new 150hp Salmson P9 radial engine. The Voisin 5 was created in response, with a more streamlined central nacelle, wider-chord wings, and a stronger undercarriage. Its factory designation was the "LAS" ("LBS" with the cannon).

The works in progress concern the LVG C-VI, the Voisin LA-5 and the Renard R-31, of which the Royal Army Museum – MRA – holds the last example in the world. Recently, the interior of C-119 Flying Boxcar has been recently opened to the public.
