Around this period, a stylized "40" logo was introduced which would also be used by ABC affiliate WWSB in Sarasota, Florida in 1982. On April 27, 1981, channel 40 changed its callsign to WAAT. On April 12, 1984, the station was renamed to WMGM-TV to match co-owned WMGM radio. The "40" was derived from WNBC-TV (channel 4) in nearby New York City.
