Genesee Valley Transportation adds to its Alco/MLW six-motor
2023年8月20日 · A ninth six-motor MLW, former Quebec Cartier M636 No. 41, has been on Genesee Valley Transportation since 2019. Purchased from a leasing company, the locomotive had resided on the WNYP for several years, occasionally used by that railroad. GVT purchased it initially as a parts source for its own MLWs, but it has remained intact.

Last year they acquired 4 of the Western New York and Pennsylvania's ex-Cartier M636s for use on their former Lackawanna main line through the Pocono Mountains of PA. This week for WNYP 643/QCM 43 was finally released for service and has made several runs.

The NYS&W is currently an all-EMD powered railroad. The WNY&P still operates M630 and M636 MLW locomotives, but these units were scheduled be removed from service in Summer 2019 and replaced by GE AC6000CWs that formerly served with CSX Transportation. The WNYP M-630s and M-636s are reportedly going to the Delaware-Lackawanna in the future.

The M-636 is a six-axle, 3,600 hp diesel locomotive marketed as part of the Montreal Locomotive Works six-axle "M-Line" series of locomotives. It was an evolution of the ALCo C636, and it saw many sales to Canadian, Mexican and Australian customers. Today, there are a handful M-636s left in revenue service.

2025年1月12日 · Delaware Lackawanna M636 #3602 (Ex- WNYP #643) leads PO75 past Larsen Lake with DL M636 #3612 (Ex- WNYP #637) trailing behind it. The two “Bigs” as they were called back on the WNYP are now leading trains together, thankfully with #3602 in the lead with a much nicer paint job than the #3612.

3 天之前 · The RRPX 41 (M636), which was leased by WNY&P was south by CP-Pine on the Norfolk Southern Buffalo Line on train H57 at 6:43 p.m. this evening. It’s currently enroute to Northumberland yard where it’ll be picked up and moved to it’s new home on the Delaware–Lackawanna Railroad in Scranton, PA.
