The Lockheed X-27 was an experimental fighter prototype developed as the basis for an F-104 Starfighter replacement. [1] It was a direct competitor to the Northtrop F-5E Tiger, Dassault Mirage F1 , Grumman YF-17 Cobra and the F-4 Phantom II .
