The jet version was to use 12 J47s in 6 pods suspended from pylons. The YB-60 would change to have only 8 J57s jets instead, and turboprops remained a possibility.

The YB-40 gunship concept was a failure, but the B-17G inherited not only the chin turret, but the offset waist gunner positions and the improved tail gun station (referred to as a "Cheyenne") from the YB-40.
