The funny thing is that the local IT teacher heard of the infamy of Yahoo chat rooms and the pedophile hunts happening there, and, as a result, any online chats were prohibited in my IT class. But online games were not. Even though they had at least one built-in chatroom.

It was ugly and confusing, at least to me, but I love the fact that we could choose to talk altogether or separately with some people. Nothing much was on my profile so no one cared who I was and just focused on the conversations. And I could choose to chat with people in the same city or are interested in the same topics.

Ayy. I used to do the RPG chat rooms. You had to type out your responses, actions, dialogue etc. It was mostly in user rooms. I forgot the name of the group but there were so many people in there it was ridiculous. Cheeta-chat everywhere.
