Zhiguli (Russian: Жигули, IPA: [ʐɨɡʊˈlʲi]) was a designation of cars based on the Fiat 124 manufactured in Russia and the Soviet Union by AvtoVAZ (formerly VAZ) during 1970-2012 and somewhat longer in some places abroad. [1] For the majority of export markets however the cars were sold under the Lada brand.

The VAZ-2101 "Zhiguli", commonly nicknamed "Kopeyka" (for the smallest Soviet coin, 1/100 of the Russian ruble), is a compact 4-door sedan or wagon, called small class, passenger car, model 1 in Soviet classification, and produced by the Soviet manufacturer AvtoVAZ, introduced in 1970 as the company's first product.

Based on the Fiat 124, the 1200 was built by VAZ in Russia as the 2101, or “Zhiguli.” This early example features many Fiat parts and is powered by a 1.2L inline-four equipped with a single Weber carburetor and mated to a 4-speed manual gearbox.

The car and its modifications were named "Zhiguli", after the name of the mountains near Togliatti. The Zhiguli were very similar to the Fiat 124, but it was only in appearance. The vehicles were assembled from fully localized parts, with no supply from Fiat.

Known as the Zhiguli (for the hills found near the plant) within the Soviet Union, the main differences between the VAZ-2101 and the Fiat 124 are the use of thicker gauge steel for the bodyshell, an overhead camshaft engine (in place of the original Fiat OHV unit), and the use of aluminium drum brakes on the rear wheels in place of disc brakes.

VAZ-2103 "Zhiguli" - rear-wheel drive Soviet small car of the II group with a sedan body. It was produced at the plant in Tolyatti from 1972 to 1984. This is a more comfortable version of the VAZ-2101 sedan. The main difference is the geometry of the cabin - it became 15 mm higher, as well as better quality trim and a completely new dashboard.

VAZ-2107 "Zhiguli" is a Soviet and then Russian small car of the III group. The body is made in the form of a "sedan", the engine is located in the front longitudinally with a drive to the rear wheels through a cardan shaft. It was produced at the plant in Tolyatti from 1982 to 2012. It is the last model of the AvtoVAZ "classics".

2020年5月1日 · Called the Zhiguli in its home market and introduced in 1970, the Lada Riva became so sought after that the company released a companion model, the Niva, an off-road vehicle designed as a “Renault 5 put on a Land Rover chassis.” An ancestor of the crossover SUV, the Niva remains the longest running four-wheel drive vehicle in production.
