Zile is a small, fast, and powerful Emacs clone. It is useful for small footprint installations (e.g. on floppy disk), machines with little memory, or quick editing sessions, especially on remote machines or as a different user, e.g. root.

2025年3月11日 · Zile is a minimal Emacs clone, highly portable and quick to start. It does not offer most of the features of Emacs, and you’re recommended to use Emacs instead wherever possible! This release fixes linking on some systems; there are no significant code changes, so if you’re happy with an earlier release, there’s no need to upgrade.

It is a fork of the official GNU Zile editor, with Guile support added. Guile-on-Zile is in modern C and uses [ncurses][], [guile][] and [libgc][]. Some portability is provided by using [gnulib][].
