" Turkey in the Straw " is an American folk song that first gained popularity in the 19th century. Early versions of the song were titled " Zip Coon ", which were first published around 1834 and performed in minstrel shows, with different people claiming authorship of the song.

2023年11月8日 · The 1834 song "Zip Coon" (better known today as "Turkey in the Straw") didn't refer specifically to either a White or a Black and the "coon songs" of the 1840s and '50s were Whig political songs. By 1862, however, coon had come to mean a Black and this use [became] very common [during the 1890s]."
