HOW TO MAXIMISE CONTROL IN THIS MOVEMENT ✨ Ballet is in opposites. In order to show poses and stop force from being too great we need to pull back in areas, and hold back. In this turn to ecarté it is very challenging to show the pose. The key things I think about are 1. Getting the arms up slightly before the legs 2. Holding the left hip and shoulder back almost as soon as I’ve come to the retiré to avoid over spinning and too much force. 3. Dynamically opening the leg to the side immediately s

DOES YOUR ECARTÉ LOOK LIKE THIS? 🌟 So often when we do ecarté front, towards the barre we get this very in between position which is sort of a non pose. This not only doesn’t look great but tells me there is very little awareness to the suppprting side, both for aesthetic reasons and helping your stabilise the position. You must set up the direction well in the supporting foot, knee and shoulder, before then hinging the working knee trying to keep it as open as possible without twisting the sup

TURNS FROM FOURTH ON POINTE ✨ USE YOUR BACK Turns on pointe are not too dissimilar from turns on flat. The difference is we really can’t cheat when on pointe, we can’t relax the corps or “save the turn” as easily due to the fact we are turning on a much smaller area.
