The Harrier GR9 was the last of the Harrier jump jets and was developed through the Joint Update and Maintenance Programme, which involved several avionics and weapons upgrades. The type could carry weapons such as the Maverick air-surface missiles, AIM-9L Sidewinder air-to-air missiles and the Brimstone anti-armour missile. In 2007 the GR9 was deployed at Kandahar until the Harrier force was completely withdrawn from Afghanistan, having amassed over 22,000 flying hours during the campaign. The
