On the top of Mount Nemrut is the tomb-sanctuary of King Antiochus I of Commagene (probably built in 62 BC) which consisting of a pyramid-shaped stone mound, 50 meters high, with three terraces at its base. On the west terrace there are 5 large statues, 9 - 10 meters high, which represent: King Antiochus I, Zeus, Apollo/Mithra, the goddess Tyche and Heracles; at their ends we find the eagle and the lion which were symbols of royalty associated with the Commagene dynasty.
