This little screech owl will probably be my last completed carving of the year! I was given some sassafras and I wanted to get a feel for how it carved. I picked this little chunk to mess around with and I couldn't believe how nice it was to carve. It holds detail really well, has a nice grain, and it smells amazing. Almost like root beer! I have a big piece for a walking stick but want to find some bigger pieces to make some larger carvings. #screechowl #owl #whittling #carvingart #birdoftheday
