The information board situated at The Fortingall Yew tree refers to it as one of the oldest living things in Europe, if not the world and places it to be an estimated 5000 years old. World's tallest yew hedge receives annual trim

This Japanese Yew is an example of the hollow-trunked bonsai style known as “saba-miki” which resulted from the Yew tree’s natural aging process. The hollow trunk contains the rare and coveted feature of the remnant of the tree’s inner core wood, including small branch stubs from its youth.
