On this day in 1958, a bear called Paddington was published and so began one of the most endearing children’s stories of all time. Paddington started life as an orphan in Peru and then arrived here in England with a sign around his neck that said please look after this bear. The story was inspired by the evacuated children of World War II who left towns and cities here in England to escape the bombings. Maybe we can’t relate to that kind of suffering but perhaps the feeling of being displaced an
