Grow your own onions from seed! 🧅 Onions are one of the first seeds that I start every year, in late winter. For reference, I’m in zone 7A in northern Virginia. I start with heirloom seeds, sowing 4 seeds per soil block, in trays of 50 blocks. The trays are placed under grow lights and kept well watered. I like to plant out my onions at the end of March, but first, the seedlings must be hardened off outside for 1-2 weeks. I plant my onions in groups of four, hence the four seeds per soil block.
